Passion led us here - The Heartbeat Behind The Vision

Our Roots

how we were founded

While working as an educator at McLain High School, Mrs. Merleanna Dick believed her students could fulfill their God-given potential if they were given the opportunity. Originally, she began a girls’ mentoring initiative; however, she knew that the need was far greater than just impacting the lives of a few female students.

Growing up in rural Mississippi in the 60’s, she experienced economic and social disparities firsthand. She understood how underserved students could potentially fall through the system without proper intervention. Because she benefited from caring individuals (from teachers to faith-based communities), she was able to excel in education and life.

Today, EFS has helped over a thousand youth become confident in fulfilling their potential. Merleanna knows the impact that individuals like you can have on a person’s life. When we work together, we will help thousands of more youth fulfill their dreams.
