Mrs. Merleanna Dick started her teaching career as an Adjunct Professor of Organic Chemistry at Oral Roberts University and continued until she retired from teaching high school in 2015. She founded Education for Scholars, Inc. in 2010 while working as a full-time, high school chemistry teacher at McLain High School. Her passion has been to shift the mindset and achievement potential of at-risk, underserved youth to see education (cognitive, physical, and spiritual) as a way to empower them to be successful in their occupational endeavors. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Mississippi Valley State University and a Master of Science degree in Mathematics and Science Education from The University of Tulsa. Merleanna worked as a Science Department Chair at McLain and has received numerous awards in her field. For example, she was named McLain’s Teacher of the Year, Youth At Heart Champion’s Heart Award, and Mentor of the Year with the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence. As Executive Director, she is responsible for expanding the organization in the areas of funding, staffing, and overseeing its operations by working closely with the Board of Directors.
